Frozen Treats for your Dog

As the temperatures start to rise, your dog deserves a tasty frozen treat. Try these simple recipes for some homemade delicious pupsicles.

Blueberry Frozen Dog Treats

¾ cup blueberries

¾ cup greek yogurt

½ ripe banana

Mix all ingredients in food processor. Pour into molds or ice cube trays. Freeze 1 hour.

Watermelon Carrot Pupsicle

2 medium carrots

3 cups chopped watermelon

Pulse carrots in food processor until finely blended. Add pieces of watermelon and blend until smooth. Pour into molds or ice cube tray. Freeze 2 hours.

Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream for Dogs

1 banana sliced into chunks and frozen

1/4 cup low- or non-fat plain yogurt

2 tablespoons natural peanut butter

Place the banana chunks in the bowl of a food processor and pulse a few times, until the banana is in small pieces. Add the remaining ingredients and process until smooth and creamy, stopping several times to scrape the bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula. Add water a teaspoon at a time if necessary to help the processor. Divide ice cream among molds or holes in an ice tray, or just scoop it into bowls. If using molds, freeze until solid before serving.

Frozen Pina Colada Dog Treats

1/4 cup coconut oil

2 Tablespoons diced pineapple

1 1/2 Tablespoons shredded coconut (optional)

Measure out your coconut oil either into a small cup/bowl or a larger measuring cup (such as a 1 cup measuring cup).

Microwave the coconut oil to melt it in 30 second intervals.

Prepare your silicone mold by laying it on a small baking sheet or something else that is stiff for easy transfer to the refrigerator.

Dice up the pineapple so it is small enough to fit in the molds.

Sprinkle the shredded coconut and pineapple into each mold.

Pour the melted coconut oil into each mold, up to the top.

Transfer the treats to the refrigerator (approximately 4 hours) or freezer (approximately 1 hour) until set.

Golden Vegetable Frosty Paws with Tasty Meaty Middles

1 carrot

1 small sweet potato

1 splash chicken stock or water

12 small chunks cooked chicken, turkey or other meat

Chop the carrot into chunks and boil in a pan of water for 8-10 minutes until soft

Meanwhile, piece some holes in the skin of the sweet potato using a fork, then put it in in the microwave for around 7 minutes, or until cooked all the way through.

Once the sweet potato is cooked, cut it in half and scoop out all the flesh and add it to a blender or chopper. Discard the skin of the sweet potato.

Add the carrot pieces in to the blender as well as a splash of chicken stock or water.

Blend the mixture until smooth. If it's too thick, add a little more chicken stock or water.

Spoon the vegetable mix into your ice cube tray, filling each hole about 1/2 way.

Push a cooked chicken chunk into the middle of each ice cube shape.

Fill the ice cube tray to the top using the rest of your vegetable mix.

Freeze for at least 6 hours; ideally overnight.

Frozen Strawberry Banana Dog Treats

1 cup strawberries, chopped

1 large banana, chopped

½ cup plain Greek yogurt

⅓ cup coconut milk

Remove the tray from the freezer and flip upside-down to remove.

Chicken and Yogurt Frozen Dog Treats

1 1/2 cups finely chopped, cooked chicken

1 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt

In a medium bowl, mix chicken and yogurt until thoroughly combined.

Drop mixture by the 1/2 tablespoon onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Using the back of a spoon, slightly flatten each treat into a thin disk.
